Caterina Füredy was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1943, the second child of a family stripped of its titles and noble ranks during the Russian occupation at the end of the Second World War. After the death of her father, and in response to an inner calling, she began to write her family’s story. Her aim was to bring to the light her parents’ lives and the recent history of her native land, a history that seems far removed from a world so far removed from the Hungary of today.
